Working Directly With 9-1-1

Every day there are hundreds of reports of critical wanderings—patients who leave the safety of their homes, senior care communities and caregivers, unable to return. Sixty percent of those with Alzheimer’s disease attempt to leave their place of residence at least once during the course of their disease and for those who succeed, 72 percent attempt to do so again. Meanwhile, the mortality rate among the autism population is twice as high as the general population, with drowning remaining among the top causes of death of runners.

Shockingly, all subjects found within 24 hours of disappearance survived—while only 54 percent of those requiring greater than 24 hours survived. A system for rapid location is the only way to curb this tragedy.

With over six million people currently using the E-9-1-1 system, it has become the most reliable way for Americans to report an emergency. Rather than build a solution that requires special additional equipment, we believe in making the best use of available tools. Using the existing E-9-1-1 system, our cellular network-based U-TDOA technology provides unparalleled location information in emergency situations.

When activated, the EmSeeQ connects directly to 9-1-1 much like a cellular phone call.  Via the E-9-1-1 system, the EmSeeQ provides the location of a missing person directly to law enforcement, making rescue possible in minutes rather than days. There is no special equipment needed and there is no cost for training dispatchers, saving valuable human resources and tax dollars.

“Something that normally takes many hours or even days was accomplished in less than 13 minutes from start to finish.” —Susan Rodriquez, Public Education Representative, Plano 9-1-1

“EmFinders is part of our team—they are a tool that dispatchers use to help them do their job.” —Sherry Decker, Training Director, 9-1-1 North Central Texas Council of Governments

The EmSeeQ device appears as a cell phone number when it connects to  9-1-1 and, in addition to the location, provides a pre-recorded message to the operator explaining the nature of the emergency and requesting assistance. The message also provides the EmFinders Emergency Center number so dispatchers can connect and retrieve descriptive, health and other information about the missing person.

During recovery, the EmSeeQ can update its location through re-bidding. A re-bid will not mute the audio stream. If the initial call appears as a Phase I wireless call, the re-bid will be Phase II. If a call drops, the device will redial 9-1-1. And, for location updates, the device can answer a dispatcher call and then redial 9-1-1.
